Our History
Where families come from
Names, people and places. Only names are published so far, and this page explains why.
The Strands
What you can read today
We publish a record when we can show where it came from, not when the page is ready.
Clan Names Clan names 700Across 12 languages and 7 naming traditions, each addressed in its own word rather than translated into one. 354 carry praise text; the rest carry a name and context.
Figures People In the app now. Not here yet, because we only publish a life once we can show where the facts came from. Coming once we can show our sources
Atlas Places In the app now, with how to say each name and how sure we are. Not here yet, for the same reason. Coming once we can show our sources
How The Record Is Kept
We show the disagreements
When two sources say different things, we keep both and tell you. We do not pick a winner, fill in gaps or tidy anything up.
303records where sources disagree. You can see both on the record itself.
346have a name, a language and context, but no praise text yet. Either we could not source it, or we do not have permission to publish it.
7naming traditions, each called by its own word. The Kalanga one is in English because we would rather leave a gap than invent a word.
