Who Can See What, And How That Gets Decided
Your family's photographs and voices are the most personal thing it will ever hand to anyone. Four things are true of yours today.
The four mechanisms
-
You Choose The Audience, One Moment At A Time
Only you, your confirmed family, or one circle. You pick when you post, and that choice is applied in the database itself rather than by the app on your phone. It is not a setting somewhere you have to go and find.
-
A Relative Counts Once Both Of You Say So
A connection you have proposed and nobody has accepted is a request. It shows nobody anything and it opens nothing. Adding somebody does not put them in your family.
-
Your Files Are Not At A Public Address
Photographs, voice notes and message attachments sit in private storage. There is no link to them sitting on the open internet, and when the app opens one it does so with a link that expires.
-
Nothing Is Gathered About You From Elsewhere
What is in your family's record is what a member of your family put there. We do not go and find material about your family somewhere else to fill in the gaps.
What This Page Is Not
Four Things, Not Everything
This page describes mechanisms that are in the product today. It is not a privacy policy and it does not stand in for one.
This page does not answer what is kept and for how long, which companies process data on our behalf, how a request to delete is handled, or what rights apply where you live. Those documents are being written against POPIA and GDPR and read by a lawyer, and until they are finished this site carries no policy pages at all rather than ones that look finished.
You will not find the words "completely private" or "fully secure" on this site. Not because they would be hard to defend, but because they would not be true of any product, and a sentence that cannot survive being read beside the thing it describes is not worth writing.
Where a protection has an edge, the page that covers it names the edge. Security does that for how the product is built and maintained. Custodianship does it for who decides what happens to a family's record, including the parts that are decided but not yet built.
Children
A Child Cannot Agree To Any Of This
Children are in family records from the first photograph, and an adult is making that decision for them.
What happens to a child's record, who holds the authority over it, and where those protections stop is its own page.
