GcalekaPhaloKhawutaHintsaSarhiliSigcawu The History Behind This Name
As written down by the people named at the end.
Gcaleka kaPhalo (about 1728-1779) ruled the amaXhosa from 1755 until his death. The conflict during his reign divided the nation into two houses: the amaXhosa of Gcaleka and the amaXhosa of Rharhabe.
The Great House passed from Gcaleka to Khawuta, then Hintsa kaKhawuta, Sarhili kaHintsa, and Sigcawu kaSarhili. The Gcaleka House is recognised today as the royal house of the Xhosa nation.

About This Record
What Was Written Down
The kings of the Great House, in the order Wikipedia records them. This is a recorded ROYAL LINE, not an izinqulo sequence read from a praise corpus - the two are different kinds of record and this entry says which it is.

A family saying its own izinqulo knows them better than any directory does. If yours has more than what is on this page, it belongs here.
