Junod's most detailed clan account. The Nondwane country was first held by three clans without iron or shields, the Mahlangwan, Honwana and Nkumba; a chief called Lebombo settled there before 1500; then the Mazwaya conquered the whole country and placed sons and relatives as petty chiefs (tihosana) with the old Lebombo chiefs as counsellors. Each branch took its own laudatory name: Mazwaya Masinga (the main branch near Morakwen), Mazwaya Tjakame, Mazwaya Hlewane, Mazwaya Matinana, Mazwaya Makaneta. The kingship passed from the Masinga to the Matinana branch and, after the war of 1904, to the Hlewane. Junod's Nondwane list runs Libombo, Masinga, Ngomana, Matinana, Makwakwa, Papele, Khobete (rebelled against the Portuguese in 1859), Mapunga, Mahazule. He describes how a sub-clan ancestor (Makaneta) comes to replace the clan founder (Mazwaya) in daily use, and how immigrants of Tembe, Shibu.
